Term life insurance provides protection for a stated period of time. Every year a premium is paid to cover the risk of death during that particular year. Term insurance has no built up cash value in the policy. The only way to collect anything is to die during the term. If death occurs, the beneficiary collects the death benefit of the policy, free of income tax. Term life insurance is well suited for short-range goals such as coverage to pay off a loan, or extra protecting during the child raising years.

Features of Term Life Insurance:

• Provides protection for a set time period ranging from 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 years.
• The death benefit is only payable during the term selected by the insured.
• Does not build up cash value.
• Some policies can be converted into universal life insurance & whole life insurance products without future medical review from the company.
• Some policies carry a feature called “return of premium”. This feature refunds the insured 100% of the money which they have contributed over the term

Advice for Term Life Insurance

Term life insurance has premiums that are designed to remain level for a period of 5, 10, 15, 20, or even 30 years, but be very careful! Most term policies include a guarantee of level premiums for the entire term, however some policies don't provide guarantees for the entire duration of the policy. Without a guarantee that runs for the entire term, the insurance company can raise your premiums, even during the time in which you expected your premiums to remain level. This is why it is extremely important to completely understand the terms of the policy you are considering to purchase.
